FAQ
Based on your valuable feedback and questions, we have developed the following FAQ for your better reference how to work with our wiki:
Do I have to register before I write or edit articles?
Yes. Before you will be able to actively participate in and contribute to our portal - e.g. by adding articles or comments - you must register. We also require registration to better identify the authors who are supposed to use their full names.
How do I register?
STEP 1. Click on the "Register" link in the left navigation bar and enter your information. Besides your full name, email address, password and country you need to create your typical
wiki-user name such as "HenrikePaepcke".
How to create your user name = wiki name?
A “wiki name” is a special user name which requires a specific “wiki” syntax. It is a combination of your first and last name (both starting with capital letters), without any spaces in between. Using this wiki name will later facilitate the process of creating signatures and links.
In general, any wiki name that you create for your personal user form or other articles - need to include at least two capital letters.
STEP 2. Submit your entries.
STEP 3. Click on your wiki name on the verification page and your personal user form will show up. Congratulations, you have just created your first wiki article!
How can I get a quick overview of all recent articles?
Click on the "Recently Updated Articles" link on the left navigation bar, and you will find a list of all recent articles, starting with the most recently updated one.
How do I create an article?
STEP 1. Click on "Create new article" on the left navigation bar and enter a WikiName for your article (at least two words without space and two capital letters).
STEP 2. Ignore the other fields and simply submit your entry.
STEP 3. Your new article will open up in the edit mode so that you can start working on it. Please do not forget to save!
I have created and saved a new article. Where is it?
The article exists but is not yet part of any of the overview pages or connected with other articles. So please create as many links as possible for your article so that it can be easier found.
STEP 1. Go to the article where you wish to include a link to your article.
STEP 2. Enter the Edit mode and add the WikiName of your article (two words without spaces with at least two capital letters) wherever you want, including a short description.
STEP 3. Save. The WikiName of your article has been automatically turned into a link to your article.
Which pages am I allowed to edit?
You can add comments or information to all articles, except for the homepage which will be administred by Henrike and Julia.
We particularly encourage you to add information and/or links to your articles to the main categories pages (
ProjectsIssues and
ResourcesLinks).
How can I edit other user's articles?
Out of respect for our authors, we ask everybody to discuss possible ideas for changes or edits with the author first! You can do this by adding comments (see below). Please do not simply alter other users' texts - we are not a wikipedia-style "open editing" community. For more information, please refer to our netiquette, which explains our code of conduct in dealing with content created by other users.
How do I add comments to other users' articles?
Please use the comment function (see below) or simply add your comment below the author's text. Please do not forget to include your name. Also, please refer to our netiquette, which explains our code of conduct in dealing with content created by other users.
Is there a code of conduct or a netiquette how to use the wiki?
Yes.
Our Twiki-Netiquette in detail:
- Please respect the opinions of others.
- Do not simply edit other members' articles: Discuss your proposed edits with the author first. Use the comment function for this purpose, or add your comments including your name.
- Formatting: Simple is beautiful - creating headings, tables of contents, comments sections and otherwise using plain text will do.
- Try to keep an article short: If it gets too long, consider splitting up the content and creating a new article.
- Make sure your article is linked with other articles so that there are more ways people can discover it.
- Please add your signature every time you create or add new content or comments.
- When you save your new article, please try to find a precise title for it so that others can easily understand what you mean
How can I add links?
You can either add external links by simply entering the target URL or you can create an internal link by simply using the !"WikiName" of the target article (once you save, this wiki name will turn into an internal link). For more information, see the section "I have created and saved a new article. Where is it?" above.
How can I integrate a comment box in my article?
Insert the following code: %COMMENT{type="below"}% at any place you want the field for entering comments to appear. It will look as follows:
How can I add a table of contents to my article?
Insert the following code: %TOC% at any place you want.
