FAQ

Do I have to register before I contribute?

Yes. Before you will be able to actively participate in and contribute to our portal - e.g. by adding pages or comments - you must register. We also require registration to better identify the authors who are supposed to use their full names.

How do I register?

STEP 1. Please send an email to workinggroup@unstudies.org with your full name, institution and country so that we can create an account for you and provide you with your login information by email.

STEP 2. On the homepage, enter your login name (first and last name) and  password.

STEP 3. Submit your entries.

STEP 4. Click on "my account" in the left navigation bar to change your password, if necessary.

How can I get a quick overview of all recent articles?

Click on the "Recent 50 Articles" in the "News" Section, and you will find a list of all recent articles, starting with the most recently updated one.

How do I create a new page by myself?

STEP 1. To add a new sub-page to the current one, click on "Create new page" on the left navigation bar and enter a title for your new page.

STEP 2. Ignore the other fields and simply submit your entry.

STEP 3. Your new page will open up in the edit mode so that you can start working on it. Please do not forget to save!

I have created and saved a new page. Where is it?

The new page has been created as a sub-page of your origin page (the page you started from when you created your new sub-page).

You may change the location of the page.

STEP 1. Go to the article you wish to re-locate.

STEP 2. Enter the Edit mode and chose the correct target page of the list of all pages in the content section (to be found beyond the text editing box).

STEP 3. Save. Your new page has been re-located.

In addition, please create as many links as possible to your page so that it can be easier found.

Which pages am I allowed to edit?

You can add comments or information to all pages in the Activities section. However, feel free to add comments to all other pages as well, where the comment function is enabled.

How can I edit other user's pages?

Out of respect for our authors, we ask everybody to discuss possible ideas for changes or edits with the author first! You can do this by adding comments (see below). Please do not simply alter other users' texts - we are not a wikipedia-style "open editing" community. For more information, please refer to our netiquette, which explains our code of conduct in dealing with content created by other users.

How do I add comments to other users' pages?

Please use the comment function (see below) or simply add your comment below the author's text. Please do not forget to include your name. Also, please refer to our netiquette, which explains our code of conduct in dealing with content created by other users.

Is there a code of conduct or a netiquette how to use the working space?

Yes. Our Netiquette in detail:

  1. Please respect the opinions of others.
  2. Do not simply edit other members' articles: Discuss your proposed edits with the author first. Use the comment function for this purpose, or add your comments including your name.
  3. Formatting: Simple is beautiful - creating headings, tables of contents, comments sections and otherwise using plain text will do.
  4. Try to keep an article short: If it gets too long, consider splitting up the content and creating a new article.
  5. Make sure your article is linked with other articles so that there are more ways people can discover it.
  6. Please add your signature every time you create or add new content or comments.
  7. When you save your new article, please try to find a precise title for it so that others can easily understand what you mean.

You can add external links by simply entering the target URL. This may be an internal link (in this case, copy & paste the URL of a UNSA portal page) or an external link (in this case, simply enter the full web address).
